India’s 1st ever Dental Lab Expo & Conference-2017 Beginning of a New Journey

Ivory exhibitions and Guident have collaborated to conduct the first of its kind Dental Lab expo and Conference at CODISSIA trade fair complex, Coimbatore on 29th and 30th of April 2017. It happened for the first time that dental technicians from all over the country gathered under one roof to share knowledge and contribute to their fraternity. It served as a great platform which made the interaction between the dental technicians and dentists possible. And also enabled them to share and adopt the best practices.
Dental Lab Expo & Conferences was an initiative taken by IVORY EXHIBITIONS AND CONFERENCES in order to bring into light the not so glamorous job of dental technicians. As mentioned earlier that this one of its kind conference is being organised with the sole motive of upgrading the knowledge and level of work being done by the dental technicians in INDIA. It was a step taken with an aim of bringing in to notice the secluded territory of dentistry which is not less than a spouse for it.
But despite of its crucial role in dentistry it has been constantly ignored to an extent that many people don’t even know about this profession. And as people are not aware of the very existence than how come they would ever come to know about the battles that are being fought by them on daily basis for the mere survival.
The problem could be noticed from the fact that there are so many colleges throughout the country producing every year hundreds and thousands of dentists but only a handful of institutions offering courses for technicians that’s why there are few qualified technicians in the country as a result of which this profession is dying day by day.
To make the situation even worse the technological advancements, working environment, and educational facilities being provided to the technicians all over the globe are some factors that are responsible for widening the gap between Indian technicians and the technicians from all over the world which if not taken care right now than it will lead to even more devastating results.
So its high time when some immediate call should be taken in order to revive this almost dead profession which has been taken in the form of Dental Lab expo & Conferences 2017 which is merely a step taken at the grass root level with a hope of doing atleast something for people who are no less than the backbone of Dentistry.
Event received an overwhelming response from dental technicians, dentists, prothodontists and lecturers and professors who came not only to attend the event but also actively participated in the various activities that were taking place such as work shops, lectures, and seminars etc.
More than sixteen speakers and many hands on courses and workshops were planned to highlight the newer techniques that would help the participating technician to advance standards within dental technology for the benefit of the oral healthcare of the nation.
There were forty compnies including Amann Girrbach, Dentsply Sirona, AMPRO, Apsom Infotex, Kelkar Dynamics, Bredent, Adin Implants, Premier Dent, Zubler India, Meadway Dental, Universal Concepts, Gani Dental Lab AIDITE China, GC India , Ruby Japan, Elite Dental Lab, Unicorn Denmart and Glaze Dental Depot etc. to showcase the latest dental lab technology that is available in the country.

Market Overview

The global dental market is growing at a rate of CAGR 5% in the last five years with the Asian markets showing highest growth of 10% followed by the US at almost half the rate of 5.5%. With over 8000 dental laboratories, 306 dental institutes, the Indian dental market is vast and it is predicted that India will be the single largest country market for dental products and materials.
The Indian dental market is expected to have a growth rate of 20 to 30 percent, with investment groups building multispecialty hospitals offering general dentistry and specialist treatments. The current dentist to population ratio in urban area is 1:9000 and in rural areas it is 1:200000. The value of dental equipment and laboratories market itself is about US$ 90 million annually

There is a greater demand than supply of dental technicians in India. There are more than 8,000 dental laboratories and thirty five training institutions for dental technicians. Given the relatively low ratio of dental technician to dental population, there is still tremendous scope for overseas professional organisations to enter this field and set up quality laboratories in the country. More colleges are now offering the course to match the growing demand.
A large portion of dental products are imported into the country. About 85% of India's annual requirement is supplied by Germany, USA, Italy, Japan and China. Most of the imports are in the implants segment.
Foreign companies are investing in the Indian dental equipment market by establishing their production units in India. India is rapidly becoming a manufacturing hub for supplying dental equipment and material to less developed countries such as Pakistan, Africa, Sri Lanka and parts of the Middle East.
